Why ?Why is an interesting question, very interesting. Why does anybody do anything? Especially why does somebody create a web page that's not selling something? Well, I'm not sellng anything, so I ought to come clean with my intentions... I've got this terrible feeling that there is a great change about to happen. I'm sure that almost every other weirdo in the world has the same opinion. "Something's coming", "Repent!", "The end is nigh!". Well, they're all right .... and they're all wrong! There is something coming. Many different religions have an "End of Days" scenario, and it all says pretty much the same thing... The end will come, everybody will die, the dead shall return, the world will end, Ragnarok will occur, Fenrir will escape his chains, and Nox shall eat the world, we'll all be judged, etc etc. There are so many, and there is only one. If you read several end-of-times myths closely, you'll see that they are all saying the same thing within the framework of their own self-referential mythology. The world sprung from the destruction of Tiamat and Absu according to the Sumerian myth. The world was created by The Creator, Yahweh, and will end when a certain set of events occurs, and all are reconciled into one again. Kind of like a giant alarm clock going off and waking us all from this dream we inhabit. According to Mayan/Aztec/Toltec/Olmec myth (OK, I'll admit they're different, but oh-so very similar), and the Mayan Calendar in particular, the world ends on Winter Solstice 2012 AD. Well, Winter Solstice in the northern hemisphere anyway. Strangely enough, I agree with that timescale. But what's actually going to happen? According to Norse myth, in Raganarok, or Gotterdammerung, the chained Titans and Gods will escape, Loki will escape his bonds and lead the Titans into the fnal battle with the Gods. The wolf Skol will devour the Sun, and after a titanic battle, the Fire Giant, Surt, will fling fire and ignite the world which will burn until it sinks into the sea. A new idyllic world will arise from the ocean and a new breed of evolved humans will inherit the world in peace. Aztec myth states that the God of, effectively, Evil, Tezcatlipoca (Smoking Mirror) would convince the God of Creation Quetzalcoatl (Feathered Serpent, the Mayan Kukulkan) to return and destroy the world. Quetzalcoatl was not just the God of creation, but of rebirth and destruction as well. He would be convinced to destroy this world and begein the world of the new "cycle". In fact, many myths contain this theme of death and rebirth, applied not just to humans and creatures but to the world as a whole. This is in fact what I believe. I don't think it will be as violent as the above-mentioned myths outline. It will be a vast change, a paradigm shift, a reversal of the current order or perhaps simply a rearrangement of the way the world works now. However, this is a Good Thing! The world needs a bit of a shake-up, there is no doubt about that! One thing I do agree with in concert with many end of times myths, is that humans themselves will bring it on, will fashion the destruction (let's say reformation) of the world. We will be the engineers of our own re-creation, and what we re-create it into is up to us. The New Order? Is that what we are talking about? Isn't that a bit extreme? Yes, I suppose it is what I'm talking about. Not just an Evolution, but a Revolution, or perhaps that should be written the other way around, not just a Revolution, but an Evolution! You see, it's more than replacing the current world with another, and what does that mean anyway? It's blatantly obvious that we can't physically change the world. That's just plaine nonsense. This planet is an amazing thing, with impossibly complex systems balancing each other out, with such intricate dependancies that I don't think humans could ever, and I really do mean ever, replicate or master it. Each living thing on this ball of mud we call Earth contributes to all other things in so many innumerable and unknowable ways, that we could never take on the role of Planetary Guardian. We can't guide this thing, it's too big. What we can do, however, is reform ourselves, our mental attitudes, our minds, our souls, our bodies, to fit more properly into the place we want to be. That is; here, on earth; there, in space; elsewhere, on other planets; and otherwhere, the inner place. Mail me, I'd love to hear from you. Page very definitely still under construction! |
